One Har-Ber High School and three Don Tyson School of Innovation seniors have accepted appointments to attend United States military academies.
Har-Ber High School’s Casey Elliott will attend the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Don Tyson School of Innovation students Vaughn Fields will attend the U.S. Naval Academy, Joseph Rouse will attend the U.S. Air Force Academy, and Charles Quayle will attend the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
"We are incredibly proud of these young leaders and their decision to serve our country.," said Superintendent Dr. Jared Cleveland, Springdale Public Schools. "Their appointments to our nation’s service academies are a testament to their character, academic excellence and dedication to a cause greater than themselves."
This is a massive achievement for these Springdale Public Schools students. Being accepted into a U.S. military academy is an incredibly rigorous process that looks far beyond just grades and requires physical fitness, leadership potential and often a formal nomination from a member of Congress.
"It’s one of my greatest honors as a member of Congress to nominate exceptional students from our district to the U.S. military service academies," said Rep. Steve Womack. "These young men have already demonstrated remarkable character and commitment in pursuing military service, and I am confident they will serve our nation well. Congratulations to Charles Quayle, Casey Elliott, Joseph Rouse, and Vaughn Fields on your appointments."
Principal Amy Harrison, Don Tyson School of Innovation, proudly celebrated the achievement, hard work and perseverance of Fields, Rouse and Quayle.
“This remarkable achievement reflects their dedication, leadership and commitment to serving our country,” Harrison said. “We look forward to the incredible impact they will make as they take this next step in their journey of service and leadership.”
Principal Dr. Paul Griep, Har-Ber High School, likewise congratulated Elliott on earning an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy.
“This is one of the highest honors a student can achieve,” Griep said. “Casey’s discipline, leadership and commitment to excellence have set him apart. We are proud to see him take this next step in serving something greater than himself."
Cleveland said the district looks forward to the incredible impact the students will make in the future.
“They represent the very best of Springdale Public Schools,” he said.
